“that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation.”Romans 10:9-10 NASB1995
When God created Adam, He breathed into Adam the breath of life (Genesis 2:7). When Adam sinned, he died. Not physically but spiritually. From that point all humans are born with a dead spirit. Jesus though was born of the Holy Spirit.
How did Adam sin? He did what God commanded him not to do. The chief commandment given to mankind is to love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul and strength (Matthew 22:37). There is not a person born who has not broken this commandment. The penalty or wages of sin is death (Romans 6:23).
Death is not only physical. Life is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. The opposite of these is death.
Jesus was crucified on the cross for several reasons but only one we will highlight here. Isaiah 53:6 says that on Jesus was laid the sin of us all. This was a prophecy written of Jesus a thousand years before He lived. Jesus was crucified and buried, after three days He was resurrected or He arose from death. He defeated death. He ascended to the Father and received authority of heaven and earth (Psalm 2:8; Daniel 7:13,14; Matthew 28:18). He is Lord.
If you recognize this in your heart, then confess it with your mouth: Jesus is Lord. We fail to love Him, when we do not recognize who He is; we break the chief commandment and this holds us in sin. When we recognize the scripture says we are saved.
Saved from what?
When we recognize who He is, something happens in our lives. We put faith in Him. When we do, He says that we are transferred from condemnation to eternal life, from death to life (John 5:24).
The main reason He was crucified on that cross was to forgive us of sin and deliver us from death. He wants to break the chains of sin in our lives and flood our lives with life (John 8:34-36; 10:10).
Look to Jesus. Confess to Him that He is Lord. Confess every sin to Him that the Holy Spirit convicts you of and bring it to Him. He will forgive, set you free and give you life. Trust Him and call upon Him.
