“But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I had said to you.” NASV
Notice that Jesus calls the Holy Spirit a person. He didn’t say, “it will teach,” He said, “HE will teach.” The Holy Spirit is as real as you or I. Jesus declared that the Holy Spirit will teach you all things and bring into remembrance all that I said to you. Remember that the words of Jesus that He taught to the disciples were not His words. Jesus said that over and over. They are the words of God delivered and taught by the Holy Spirit.
Jesus is now declaring that the same Holy Spirit that taught Him is going to teach us.
Matthew 4:4, man is not to live on bread alone but on every word that proceeds from His mouth. In other words, what the Holy Spirit teaches. Jesus lived this. He abided in the Father and the Holy Spirit taught Him.
John 16:13-15, here we see the beauty of the Trinity. Jesus declares that the Holy Spirit will guide us into all truth. Look at this, even the Holy Spirit doesn’t speak on His own initiative, meaning the Holy Spirit has free will and is submitted to God the Father. The words that the Holy Spirit teaches come from God the Father.
Then He says something awesome, the Holy Spirit will glorify Jesus. Though it is His words and He is the teacher, He glorifies Jesus. Jesus is the tangible expression of the Trinity. Jesus is the flesh and blood. Jesus is the One that the world has seen and knows. He walked among us. He was one of us. Jesus paid the ultimate sacrifice. Jesus is the exalted One. He is the Head of the Church. He is the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords. He conquered death, hell and the grave. The Holy Spirit glorifies Jesus because He and He alone is the One that saves. This is vitally important because He is the firstborn. He is the Lord and there is no equal.
Everything Jesus has, He has because God the Father gave it to Him. The Holy Spirit will disclose and teach you directly from the mouth of the Father. We can see the Trinity working beautifully. They are One. When the Holy Spirit teaches you, know that no greater authority teaches you.
1 John 2:27, that anointing from the Holy Spirit that abides in you, you have no need for anyone to teach you. His anointing teaches you. How does He teach by you abiding in Him.
John 15:7, Jesus declares that as we abide in Him and the word abides in us. How is the word going to abide in us? By the teaching of the Holy Spirit. The same Spirit that taught Jesus. What does He teach? Only what the Father tells Him to teach. As that word abides in us, we will ask whatever we want according to that word and it will be granted.
As Jesus was taught He submitted to the teaching, then came the power to do. The same Holy Spirit that taught is also the same Holy Spirit that did the works. John 14:10,11, remember it is the Father’s words that Jesus preached and it was taught to Him by the Holy Spirit and then the Holy Spirit performed the works. The words and the works are married.
John 14:12, here Jesus makes a declaration that is unmatched in all of human history. “He who believes in Me…” He who believes that what I am saying is the truth. He who believes the words My Father has taught. Those that not only believe that He was crucified and resurrected but also believe the statements that He declared. Statements like, I am the Bread of Life, I am the Way and the following statement. “He who believes in Me, the works that I do shall he do also, and greater works shall he do.” Jesus is declaring that if you will believe it, the same Holy Spirit that was upon Him and taught Him and performed the miracles, will be upon you.
Acts 1:7,8, the disciples were getting distracted, like many people have since the resurrection of Jesus, about when He was going to return and set up His Kingdom, and He told them that that was not important but what was important was that the same Holy Spirit that was with Me is about to come upon you. When He comes you are going to receive power to be witnesses of Me. Or in other words you will receive power to be witnesses that what the Holy Spirit teaches you about Me is the truth. The power is to be a witness of the truth.
Matthew 10:27 Jesus declares that what He whispers to us as we are abiding in Him in the secret place to shout it in the streets. In other words, only speak what I tell you, by way of the Holy Spirit, to speak. Speak only what you have been taught. As you do, the same Holy Spirit will be with you in power!
This is the pattern of the Holy Spirit. Jesus got alone with the Holy Spirit and the Holy Spirit taught Him and then the Holy Spirit came upon Him for ministry. In the same way, today, we abide in Him and He teaches. Then He comes upon us to bear witness to what He has taught us.
2 Corinthians 3:5-11, the ministry of the New Covenant is not supposed to be dry and dead. It is supposed to be full of the Spirit. It is called the ministry of the Spirit.
